Event Types

The categories available when creating events on contacts, leads, and cases, such as hearings, filings, key life dates.

When you add an event to a contact, lead, or case (see Events & Deadlines), you give it a type. This page manages that list.

The standard set (available via Import Standard Options) mixes two kinds of entries, and both are useful:

  • Case events: Court Hearing, Original Petition, Discovery Requests Served, Inventory Exchange, Retained. These are the procedural moments of a case, and case events can carry calculated deadlines, so a well-named type makes the deadline list readable.

  • Life dates: Date of Birth, Marriage, Date of Death, Address Change. These belong on contacts, where a date matters to the representation itself (an estate plan, an immigration timeline).

Add your own types in your practice’s vocabulary. Anyone creating an event can also type a new type on the spot and it joins the firm’s list (portal visitors can’t), so expect this list to grow with use. This page is where an administrator curates it. A type already used on events can’t be deleted; combine duplicates with Merge.
