At the top of the Task Grid, you will see a series of time filters.
These filters help you view only the tasks you need to work on, or view. Each filter looks for tasks that were completed on (if they have been finished), or due on (if they have not) the date range enforced by the filter.
These filters work in tandem with the other filters and filter options, such as the "Show Completed Tasks" option and the Users filter. The effect of filters and options is cumulative: if you have the Users filter to only show your own tasks, and you have the time filter set to a custom date range, you will only see tasks for yourself in that date range!
The Today filter looks for tasks that have due dates up and util the end of the current day. So if you had a task that you did not finish yesterday, it will still show up in the work that you have to do today. That way the task does not get forgotten just because you didn't finish it! This is the default filter applied.
The Tomorrow filter looks for tasks that are specifically due tomorrow, and does not include tasks due prior to tomorrow. Pedantically, if you finished a task that was due tomorrow, it would not show up in this filter because the completion date was earlier than the due date.
The This Week filter looks for tasks that are due this week. The week is defined as starting on Monday and ending on Sunday. This filter does include tasks that have not yet been completed, just like the Today filter.
The This Month filter looks for tasks that are due this month. This filter does include tasks that have not yet been completed.
The All filter will show all tasks, regardless of their due date. This filter is useful when doing broad searches. For example, if you are looking for a task based on its title, but you don't remember when it was due or completed, you can select All and start typing in the Search field. Be careful when using this with Show Completed Tasks and a large Lookback range!
The Custom filter has several uses. In any case, clicking on the filter brings up a calendar:
The calendar is color-coded based on the workload for the given day. For example, here we can see that Friday the 11th has a large load, but Thursday is light.
This calendar's color coding is based on the filters in use. Sor if you want to see the calendar for user Josh, you would select only Josh in the Users filter, then click on Custom. Then you will see a (hopefully!) less loaded calendar. This is great for scheduling new tasks, when the task requires a lot of time.
The calendar has two options: select a single date a date range, or Today.
Clicking on Today will show tasks that are due today, and nothing else. So if you want to see tasks that have a due date or completion date of today, clicking on the Today button is what you want.
If you single-click on a day, you will be able to select a range of dates. For example, if you want to select tasks due between November 1st and 15th, you would click on the 1st, then the 15th. The range will be highlighted in yellow to show the range being selected. Once selected, the Time Filters bar will show the custom dates with a close box next to it. You can click on that button to close the Custom search dates.
If you want to select a specific day, double-click on the day you want. That effectively sets a range of one day.
The system will remember your last filter between browser reloads and closes. So if you don't see what you expect, always check your filters!
